Notes

Even though there was a short burst of rain whilst doing our riverfly monitoring today, and there had been rain on and off in the past 24 hours the water level was still low and running slow. As one of the photos above will show the bottom and stones of Kyd Brook are covered in a thick layer of silt making it an awful habitat. This is in part due to the amount of S.W.Os that empty into the brook, which leads to flashing, (water levels rising rapidly) which inturn increases the amount of silt. There was a large oak branch and several large pieces of concrete in the stream, Brian, my fellow Riverfly monitor lifted a couple of pieces of concrete and there were some gammarus and Asellus plus 3 leeches but could not be recorded for riverfly monitoring.
