Otonabee River
Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
Accessible through Trent University campus, just south of the Faryon bridge in front of the Bata library. Locate the staircase leading to the river steps in front of the library due east of the Bata podium steps and walk down ~50m. Steps to the water are concrete and are easily accessible from the spring to fall months. In this location, the water can flow is variable as it is located in a sheltered section of the Otonabee shoreline. Because this is a deep water location, it is a popular swimming and angling spot on-campus. Reacher stick is required!

View all photosPrior to sampling, a visually large watercraft travelled up the river, from south to north, passing under the Faryon Bridge. This created a large wake in the river’s current and caused debris (periphyton, sediment, detritus, etc.) from the bottom of the river bed to be churned up to the middle of the water column.
