Kyd Brook S.W.O downstream

Kyd Brook

London, Bromley, United Kingdom

This part of Kyd Brook runs within Crofton Wood near the wooden bridge that crosses Kyd Brook, which is near Eynesford recreation ground. It generally isn't a deep running brook unless it's been raining or has rained then it can be a few feet high or even overflow in places and run quickly. Crofton Woods has a clay soil wood and run off from the woods enters the brook in various places. There is a surface water overflow (S.W.O) running into it at this location. Further upstream there are 2 more S.W.Os and and a combined sewer overflow (C.S.O) which discharges untreated sewage into Kyd Brook at certain times, especially during heavy rain.

Very pleased to report that there is no pollution at this site within Kyd Brook today, but there is a sewage collection vehicle at a house further upstream where the pipes run.

Thames water are digging up a collapsed drain and replacing it. There will be further investigations and hopefully this will finally be resolved.

There is a known misconnection on this S.W.O which has been reported to Thames water but they have been unsuccessful in finding it. There is often pollution at this site for this reason, last week there was possible sewage fungus. This week there is a slight smell of sewage and even though it's dry the S.W.O is discharging pale grey water into Kyd Brook that is spreading downstream. The water in the brook is low and slow running due to the dry weather and has natural debris within it plus silt at the bottom. This pollution has been reported on the government pollution website
https://www.gov.uk/report-water-pollution, ref 02404106.

Update. I recieved an email from the environment agency asking for photos and more information. They reported it to Thames Water who sent an investigation team out on Friday night. They have found a collapsed drain and somehow this has been leaching into the surface water drain. Some unfortunate homeowners have this drain in their back gardens and it's being dug up to replace the drain, whilst another homeowner has a sewage collecting vehicle connected to the drain.

Once this is done, there will be more explorations to see if the drain is collapsed further upstream, hopefully this will not be the case and it will be resolved, only time will tell.
