Springwater Pond - Main Dock at Springwater Road Parking lot

Springwater Pond (Catfish Creek Conservation Area)

Aylmer, Ontario, Canada

Spring fed pond within popular Conservation Area that allows fishing. Pond has turtles, trout, catfish. Lots of lily pads. Apparently, air is pumped into one end of pond to slow down algae growth & provide oxygen for fish. You can see bubbling on the pond surface from the docks/testing area.

Water sample collected close to shore & not from the dock as dock still barricaded. Lots of floating debris. Conductivity seemed high?

Pond still iced over. Unable to sample water.

Still water, no flow or bubblers observed. Water appeared really clear and the green patches looked like Duckweed to me, not algae. There was some natural debris along the shoreline (leaves) and people were in the park walking their dogs.

Water level was high. Couldn't see oxygen bubblers. Algae from last visit seemed to be gone. Water was clear with a steady/fast flow. Couple of people fishing opposite of testing site, at the beach and from a dock.

No one around the pond area today. Water flowing fast towards the dam with the wind. Oxygen bubblers observed. Lots of bright green algae around the docks and along the shore. Insects observed on top of the algae.

Family fishing at the dock where water was sampled. They stated they were getting some nibbles. A couple was paddle boarding on the pond and two children were playing in the water at the beach. Lots of hikers in the area. Just a slight breeze at this location. It is near a highway. The oxygen bubblers were on and observed working. While algae wasn't obvious, I could see it stuck to orange floats near the dam.

I tested a few days earlier than the regular scheduled testing weekend since I won't be in the area to test at that time.

The water this time around appeared to have less algae and was more clear.

Beach area determined to be safe to swim at on July 19th by Health Unit.

Bubbling was observed from docks in 4 different spots towards middle of pond. Was advised oxygen is pumped in to slow down algae growth and provide oxygen for fish. Several people fishing in different areas around the pond. Two people in a canoe also fishing.
