About
Missanabie Cree First Nation (MCFN) developed a monitoring project in partnership with the Nordik Institute. The Water Guardian employed by MCFN tested water monthly over five months to gather data from 5 selected locations within and around the traditional territories of MCFN. Data is collected using Water Rangers freshwater test kits. This is part of a two-year project (2023-2024) funded in part by the Great Lakes Local Action Fund. 2024, MCFN is expected to complete water testing five times again of the same five locations.
Water testing protocol
Currently using the Water Rangers protocol, OBBN for benthic invertebrate sampling (periodic), and Nature Metrics protocols for eDNA sampling (periodic from 2023-2024).
