About
Lake Clear Watch endeavors to protect, conserve and enhance the water quality and biodiversity of the lake and its catchment area. Lake stewards have been monitoring the lake for total phosphorus and clarity since the early 1980s in the provincial Lake Partners program. Lake Clear Watch is part of the Bonnechere River Watershed Project (BRWP) Watch program which in turn is part of Ottawa Riverkeeper's Riverwatch group.
Water testing protocol
LCPOA lake stewards monitor 5 lake locations for total phosphorus, water clarity and air temperature which is submitted to the Ontario Lake Partner's program.
BRWP conducted stream assessments of the 3 main streams flowing into the lake during the summer months of 2009 and 2010. Benthic macro‐invertebrates (spineless animals that live in stream beds) were collected and identified by the RiverWatch team and volunteer assistants, and then released. Analysis of the composition and abundance of pollution tolerant or intolerant species was used to classify site condition. As a result Neilan and Kruger's creeks were classified as GOOD and Rodden Creek POOR. .
BRWP and Renfrew County Health Unit partnered to monitor Buelow Beach in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and Weiland Beach in 2016 for E.coli.
The Water Ranger's app is being tested across the Ottawa River watershed for the first time in 2016 and it is hoped there will be interest to try it out on Lake Clear.
