About
Bayside Outside is a Specialist High Skills Major program focused on the Environment run out of Bayside Secondary School outside of Belleville, Ontario. Our major focus is on watersheds and we are very lucky to have two large ponds and access to the Bay of Quinte on our 200 acre campus. Our program serves Grade 11 and 12 students in all pathways and our students earn certifications to prepare them for work and study in the Environmental field. In the Grade 11 portion of the program (running in Sem 2 - Feb-June) we have the added benefit of having the same group of students all day which gives us a lot of flexibility for labs and excursions.
Water testing protocol
Students sample the two quarry ponds and the Aikens Road access point of the Bay of Quinte. Most samples are taken from the shore line. Students have access to hip waders and canoes as well. Students use their Water Rangers sampling kit and indicate their sampling location on a map. Sampling occurs monthly in April, May, June, and when we can in September, October, November, and December.
